The Minister-designate for the Northern Region, Ali Adolf G. John, has pledged that the new National Democratic Congress (NDC) government will sustain and improve beneficial policies initiated by the previous administration, signaling a commitment to continuity in governance.

Speaking during his vetting on Thursday, January 23, 2025, Mr. John assured the Appointments Committee that the NDC would not discard any initiative deemed valuable to Ghanaians, regardless of its origin.

“We will not scrap any policy started by the NPP if it is good for Ghanaians,” he stated, highlighting the importance of prioritizing national interest over partisan politics.

Mr. John specifically addressed a youth training program launched by the previous government, praising its concept but advocating for a more decentralized approach. “Instead of concentrating such programs in Accra, we believe it would be better to establish training centers at the district level, closer to the villages,” he explained.

He acknowledged that while some young people might prefer to remain in Accra, the decentralization of training centers would provide opportunities for those who wish to stay closer to home.

The Minister-designate emphasised the NDC administration’s practical approach to governance, promising to review and improve policies that may have shortcomings. “Governance is about continuity. Whatever you started that Ghanaians are happy with, we will not scrap it. We will identify areas that need improvement and build upon them,” he affirmed.
