NPP Super Delegates Congress: Profile – Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku

Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku is another member of the NPP who is seeking to lead the elephant family into victory in the 2024 general election.

He is an economist and Policy Expert and seeking to win the NPP’s Flagbearership race.

Dr Apraku plans to use his vast expertise to lead Ghana in her quest to industrialize.

Background:

Born at Akumadan in the Ashanti region on 7 September 1954, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku attended Tweneboa Kodua Secondary School between 1967 and 1972. He furthered his education in South Albany High School in Oregon, U.S.A. after winning an AFS International essay competition. Dr. Apraku obtained his economics degrees at the Oregon State University. He also holds a doctorate in the same subject.

Political Career:

Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku is a Politician and an Economist, and a former member of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Parliament of the 4th of Ghana. He is a long-standing member of the New Patriotic Party, serving as the Member of Parliament for the Offinso North constituency in the fourth parliament of the fourth Republic. Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku was first voted into Parliament on 7 January 1997 to represent his constituency. He was reelected on 7 January 2001. He was again re-elected as the Member of Parliament for Offinso North Constituency of the Ashanti Region in the 2004 Ghanaian general elections.2007 Dr. Apraku declared his intention to contest the NPP Presidential Primaries.

He was among the 17 aspirants who contested in 2007 for the slot of flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, going into the 2008 elections. Dr. Kofi Apraku was appointed Minister for Trade and Industry in 2001. He served for three years. He was again appointed Minister for Regional Cooperation and NEPAD from 2003 to 2006.

In 2008, he was appointed by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Council of Ministers as ECOWAS Commissioner for Macroeconomic Policy and Economic Research where he is responsible for Multilateral surveillance mechanism which involves regular assessment through joint surveillance mission of the economies of ECOWAS members’ state to ascertain whether the convergences criteria are being met and provide economic and statistical data for member state and help them attain the convergence criteria and the ECOWAS single currency.

He also liaises with the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, African Development Bank among other financial institutions to support the development of ECOWAS regions. He is making himself available again for the slot to lead the NPP into the 2024 general election.

Dr. Apraku says his enormous experience in policy, economy and trade puts him in a strategic position to lead in finding solutions to the many challenges the country is facing.

Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, is also promising the NPP grassroots of an effective local structure to support them.
