The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is determined to secure between 305,000 votes of the voter population in the Volta Region in the 2024 general elections.
The Party is optimistic that the plethora of projects that the Akufo-Addo-led administration has executed in the Region will enable it to achieve the target. This was disclosed by the NPP’s Director of Communications Richard Ahiagbah at a press conference in Ho.
He said the goal is to turn the Volta Region into a battleground where the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) compete for votes based on programmes and policies that benefit the people.
“Our expectation is clear: the NPP is targeting between 300,000 and 500,000 votes in the 2024 presidential election,” he stated. “This is more than just a numerical target. It represents our conviction that the message we bring—focused on economic empowerment, infrastructure, and sustainable development—is resonating with Ghanaians”, Mr Ahaigbah said.
“This will help break the NDC’s unproductive and abusive stranglehold on the Volta Region and turn it into a battleground where the NPP and the NDC compete for votes based on programs and policies that uplift the people”, he added.
The Volta Region is considered a stronghold of the NDC.
However, the NPP is confident that it will erode the “stronghold” mantra in the upcoming elections due to the warm welcome accorded to its Presidential Candidate, Vice President, Dr Mahadu Bawumia, during his recent tour of the region.
The NPP garnered 14.1 percent votes in the 2020 presidential elections in the Volta Region, a significant rise compared to the 10.81 percent votes it secured in the 2016 elections.
Additionally, the Party improved its showing in Ketu North Constituency and won the Hohoe Constituency seat for the first time in the history of the 4th Republic.
The NPP’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah believes the Party’s electoral fortunes will increase to about three to five folds in the 2024 general elections.
He said this is due to the various socio-economic policies and infrastructure projects the NPP government has undertaken in the region since it took power in 2017.
Mr Ahigbah noted that the people in the region have embraced Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia’s fourth industrial-era programs and policies which are focused on economic empowerment, infrastructure, and sustainable development.
Mr Ahiagbah appealed to eligible voters in the region to vote massively for the NPP in both the presidential and parliamentary elections to ensure that the party continues with its good works.
“The outcome for the Volta Region in this proposition is accelerated regional development. The considerable investment of the Akufo-Addo -Bawumia administration in the region is a herald of mammoth growth when Dr Bawumia becomes President,” he stated.
