National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) spokesperson on Education Policy and Member of Parliament for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Apaak, has slammed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for failing in the education sector.
On GTV’s breakfast show “Manifesto Watch: The NDC’s Education Policy,” he argued that the problems the NPP identified have worsened.
“Those who made a mountain out of a molehill have been in power for eight years, and the situation they claimed was bad has worsened. What’s their justification for seeking to be re-elected when the problems they identified remain unsolved?” he asked.
He emphasized that Ghana’s basic public education system has been severely neglected. “Visit these schools and you’ll see dilapidated structures, students sitting on the ground, and teachers lacking basic materials like chalk and lesson notes. Sports and physical education are no longer prioritized,” he added.
Additionally he stated that government documents presented to Parliament reveal alarming shortages in textbook provision. “Only 65% of textbooks based on the standard-based curriculum have been procured and distributed. For kindergarten, not a single textbook has been provided. Students who wrote their BECE didn’t have access to textbooks aligned with the common core curriculum,” he asserted.
