Pressure Group, OccupyGhana has congratulated Ghanaians on a successful general election. The group however said it is gravely disappointed and alarmed at the rise in electoral violence which has reportedly led to the deaths of some persons.

It strongly condemns these acts of violence and is calling for a full investigation and the arrest and prosecution of those involved.

In a statement, OccupyGhana, said it regrets that similar acts of electoral or other politically-inspired violence in the past have not led to any prosecutions, which may have created a culture of impunity.

According to the group, the situation negatively impacts the country’s credential as peace-loving with enviable credible electoral processes in Africa.

The group entreats stakeholders in the electoral process and security agencies to engage with the political parties involved to forestall any new violent incidents or fatalities.

It also calls on leaders of political parties to calm down their followers, condemn the violence, and preach peace to Ghanaians.
