Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta is said to be traumatised by accusations made against him, according to Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

Speaking in Parliament on Thursday, Afenyo-Markin revealed that he had personally engaged Ofori-Atta in a conversation, who revealed this to him.

“He’s traumatised by the labelling of the adjectives described to his person. But he still knows that his God is with him. He’s undergoing some medical procedure,” the Minority Leader told the House.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor recently declared Ofori-Atta wanted in connection with multiple corruption-related investigations. However, MP for the Effutu constituency, Afenyo-Markin assured Parliament that the former minister had not absconded but had left the country with due permission for medical reasons.

“I had an early morning engagement with the Chief of Staff, who confirmed that Ofori-Atta wrote to him. He would come, and if there is anything that has to be investigated, he will make himself available.”

The debate surrounding Ken Ofori-Atta intensified after a joint police and military team raided his private residence in Cantonments earlier this week.

But the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, has described the raid as “regrettable and unfortunate”.

Addressing Parliament, Hon. Ayariga stated that the operation was led by an individual believed to be affiliated with the National Security Coordinator’s office.

The Bawku Central MP also extended an apology to Ofori-Atta, affirming the government’s commitment to upholding fundamental human rights, including privacy and property integrity.
