The Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, says the party is committed to ensuring that the counting of votes in the December polls is transparent and efficient.
He promised to complete at least 75 percent of the collation of the presidential election results by 11:00 p.m. on December 7, 2024.
Dr. Omane Boamah made this known while addressing NDC supporters at Otoase in the Ayensuano constituency on Monday, November 11, 2024, as part of a five-day campaign tour of the Eastern Region.
He expressed worries over what he described as a scheme by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to rig the upcoming elections, especially the special voting that will take place on December 2, involving security personnel, journalists, and staff of the Electoral Commission (EC).
“The Elephant has set plans to interfere with the voting process on December 2….Special voting can indeed be tampered with, so let’s remain vigilant. Security forces have assured us they won’t allow any rigging by the NPP, and we need to stand firm to prevent any interference on both December 2 and December 7”” he warned.
He urged his supporters to monitor the process closely: “Keep a sharp eye on them; they know they’re losing support, and they will not go down” without rigging the election.”.
The former Minister of Communication, Dr. Omane Boamah, has called on supporters to, from December 7, whip out their mobile phones at various polling stations, constituency collation centres, and regional capitals to record the declaration of results.
He called on supporters to make sure presiding officers post the election pink sheets at polling stations as required by law under CI 127.
He further advised supporters to converge at the constituency collation centres after declaration to observe the collation process. “Peacefully assemble at the coalition centres to protect your votes,” he urged. “Co-operate with security agencies and ensure all deployed security personnel wear name tags.”
He asked the EC to ensure that materials needed, including glue for posting results, are distributed across the 40,600 polling stations.
