Member of Parliament for Sagnarigu constituency, Alhassan Bashir Alhassan Fuseini has demonstrated the high cost of living with a ball of kenkey and fish he bought from Adabraka Kenkey House on the floor of Parliament.

Speaking on the motion tabled before the House ” debate on the Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the government for the year ending December 31, 2022″, Mr. Fuseini argued that the budget, if adopted will only add to the suffering of Ghanaians.

” Posterity will judge us, the country is watching and judging us and as people, we must stand up in defense of our people. So those additional items of increased VATs, increasing income taxes that are imposed on our people, removal of threshold on MoMo and others, is going to create further hardship on our people” he said.

He further went on to draw a ball of kenkey from a pink polyethylene bag, molded like the size of his fist.

“Mr. Speaker, before your distinguished self, I’ve brought before this house a ball of kenkey at the time even though it has suffered some kwashiorkor was GH$2. Mr. Speaker today it’s GH$4” he stated.

In the same fashion, he fetched out a small fried fish and raised it high in the air, showing it to the First Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei-Owusu.
“Mr. Speaker, this fish which I bought the same size last year at GH$6 is now GH$12”

Blaming what he called economic hardship on the Finance Minister he called on the ninety-eight majority Members of Parliament who demanded the dismissal of the Finance Minister to “do the needful”.
