The Acting Director of Public Affairs of Parliament, Kate Addo, says the proposed construction of a new Parliamentary Chamber has been dropped.
Speaking in an interview in Accra, Kate Addo said the directive came from the Speaker of Parliament Mike Aaron Ocquaye, after deliberations with some senior government officials over the weekend.
She said Parliament represents the people and will seek to pass good laws and listen to all arguments before adopting any major policy decision.
The proposed chamber, which parliamentary leaders hoped to build within three years, was expected to cost US$200 million. They argued that the present chamber in State House was not fit for purpose because it lacks adequate facilities and poses certain security risks.
