The Parliament of Ghana has agreed in principle to a request from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) for the release of two Members of Parliament (MPs) for an official interaction.

A letter dated April 2, 2025, and signed by Ebenezer Ahumah Djetor, Clerk to Parliament, addressed to the Director General of the NIB, Charles Alhassan Kipo, confirmed that Parliament has considered the request in line with Articles 117 and 118 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, which outline the privileges of MPs.

The request concerns the release of Mustapha Yussif, MP for Yagaba Kubori Constituency, and Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, MP for Gomoa Central Constituency. The letter states that Parliament has considered security protocols and the public interest in making its decision.

Consequently, the Speaker of Parliament has directed that the two MPs make themselves available for a preliminary interaction with NIB officials on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 10:00 AM. The meeting will take place at the Sir Emmanuel Charles Quist Conference Room in the Office of the Speaker. The MPs have also been advised to have their lawyers present for the engagement.

The Clerk to Parliament further instructed NIB officials to contact Parliament’s Legal Services Office upon arrival for assistance with the meeting.

This development follows increased scrutiny of public officials, with Parliament and security agencies working together within constitutional frameworks to ensure due process. The nature of the inquiry involving the two MPs remains undisclosed.
