President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has paid glowing tribute to former President John Agyekum Kufuor describing him as the most outstanding statesman the country has ever produced.
He said the eight year rule of the former President can be described as the best in the fourth republic.
President Akufo Addo made the point at a state dinner to celebrate the 80th birthday of the former President.
John Agyekum Kufuor was in December 8, 1938, has been described as one of the prime movers bringing democeacy to Ghana after the country has been subjected to a long line coup and military dictators.
He became President in 2000 after defeating Jerry John Rawlings, who had been in office for 20 years. Ghana has managed to improve its economy and much of the improvement has been credited to Kufuor’s policies, which have been applauded by many leaders in and around the world.
President Akufo Addo is one of the admirers of the former statesman. He said his social intervention policies such as the National Health Insuarance Scheme, (NHIS), National Youth Employment Program, (NYEP), Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP), Capitation Grant among others touched many lives in society.
This according to President Akufo Addo makes in the most successful leader of the New Patriotic Party, (NPP) and his government the best in the fourth republic.
Former President Kufuor has grateful to the President for the show of love on his birthday. He leaders, both current and past must be treated with utmost respect for the sacrifice they made to the nation.
The all white event was attended by current and past ministers, MPs and high profile government officials.
