President Akufo-Addo with “New Year Greetings” for Diplomats in Ghana

President Akufo-Addo has touted the economic achievements of his government, saying the 5.6 economic growth recorded during the Coronavirus pandemic is better than what he inherited from his predecessor.  President Akufo-Addo made this known during this year’s presentation of “New Year Greetings” to members of the Diplomatic Corps. He said the GHC100 billion Ghana Cedis Covid alleviation and re-vitalisation fund is yielding the needed results.

The event which is held annually to strengthen the bond of friendship and promote goodwill between Ghana and other countries as well as international organisations was attended by members of the Diplomatic Corps. It was suspended for the past two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey who welcomed the diplomats thanked them for their support to Ghana’s successful bid for the non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council.

Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Mrs. Claudia Turbay Quintero, lauded President Akufo Addo’s commitment to peace and democracy on the Continent.

President Akufo-Addo said the economy started well in 2020, but the coronavirus pandemic has put the gains in disarray. He noted that Ghana Obaatampa Programme which was instituted to provide relief to the vulnerable in society has begun yielding results.

As Chairman of ECOWAS, he called for the support of the international community to help implement sanctions placed on Coup makers in the sub-region.

Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei Opare, IGP, Dr George Akuffo Dampare were among dignitaries present.
