Founder of opposition National Democratic Congress, (NDC), Jerry John Rawlings has hinted that not until some people parading as Nkrumahist who, he believes, have hijacked the party leave its fore front, he will not play any active role in the party.
Addressing Cadres of the NDC at the retreat at Ejisu in the Ashanti region over the weekend, Mr. Rawlings noted that such members of the party have deliberately seized leafing roles pretending to be working for victory in next year’s Presidential elections even though their target is that of 2024.
He wondered why the Cadres continue to work for the party when the leadership has deliberately sidelined them in the affairs of the party.
Touching on national issues, former President Rawlings condemned what he considers a desecration of a major national monument as the grave of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nrkumah at the Old Polo Grounds by turning it into a family mausoleum.
He alleges also that certain persons perpetrating criminal activities within the Ghana Water Company and the Ghana Immigration Service are still at post at the expense of the nation.
A former Eastern Regional Minister, Antwi Boasiako Sekyere, blamed the defeat of the NDC in the 2016, elections partly on the neglect of the grassroot of the party.
He however, urged the Cadres to commit themselves and their reaources to the growth of the party and also resolve to actively campaign for grassroots mobilization and votes towards its victory in next year’s elections.
Mr. Antwi Boasiako Sekyere pledged the unflinching support of the Cadres for the NDC in general and the Flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama in particular going into the Presidential polls.
