The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has begun the election of new executives to occupy positions at the Constituency level.
The 2022 Constituency Annual Delegates Conference which began April 28, 2022 is expected to end on Monday, May 2, 2022 across the 250 Constituencies that are conducting the elections without qualms.
Below are some reports from the regions
Ashanti Region:
From the Ashanti Region, Nicholas Osei Wusu reports that the NPP’s elections in the Manhyia South Constituency in the Ashanti region has ended with most of the new executive’s elected unopposed.
For the Constituency Chairmanship position at Manhyia South, Richard Adjei Mensah Ofori-Atta contested without any challenger with his 1st Vice Chairman, Seth Twumasi also going unopposed.
Other executives elected unopposed are Alhaji Alhassan Abubakari, Organizer, and Alhaji Bashiru, Nasara Coordinator.
Haruna Alhassan polled 324 votes to beat his contender Patricia Adurwumwaa. Oscar Boah secured the Assistant Secretary slot unopposed.
For the Second Constituency Vice Chairmanship position, Kingsley Kyeretwie garnered 388 votes to defeat his challenger Justice Anokye who had 162 votes, while Henry Adu Poku won the Youth Organizer contest.
The other elected Constituency executives are Mary Coker, Women’s Organizer and Kofi Asamoah, Treasurer. Officials from the Electoral Commission supervised the election.
Ablekuma West:
Emmanuelle Jackson reports that the NPP Constituency Executive elections for Ablekuma West, will be conducted on Sunday, May 1.
The Polling Station Secretary, Hans Aidoo, said the chosen date is to enable every member of the Constituency to participate in the election which falls on a weekend.
He appealed to delegates to comport themselves during Sunday’s elections.
Meanwhile, the Polling Station Women’s Organizer for Ablekuma West, Doris Bonaparte Okai, says Ghanaians should expect smooth running and peaceful elections from the Constituency.
According to her, the elections will be held at the Keep Fit Liberty Park, at Dansoman Roundabout.
Tema:
Hagar Sey and Patrick Akpesey report that some delegates at the Tema East Constituency have raised concerns over what they said to be illegal proxy voting at the ongoing Constituency elections held at Tema.
According to them, the Election Committee did not create any platform or avenue for them to discuss proxy voting issues.
Speaking to GBC News at Tema, a delegate, Masud Abdalla explained that the proxy voting process was not transparent as the Election Committee failed to give prior notice to the candidates for verification to be done.
Reacting to the issue, Chairman of the Constituency Electoral Committee, Sabu Adam, said the issue of proxy voting came in later. He explained that proxy voting is not illegal, but rather some candidates have refused to understand the process involved.
Twenty-four Candidates are contesting Executive positions in the Tema East Constituency with one thousand two hundred and 21 delegates listed.
