The three-day mop-up limited registration exercise for the 2024 elections has encountered significant disruptions due to network challenges. The exercise, which began on August 1st and was scheduled to conclude on Saturday, August 3rd, was suspended for more than three hours on the second day.
Speaking to GBC’s Darroll Allan Tagoe, Naa Ayele, a party representative of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), expressed frustration over the persistent network issues, stating, “Even the first day of the exercise was not spared the network issues.”
Mina Rogers, the Assistant Director of Elections for the Ablekuma Central Constituency, confirmed the network challenges and assured that engineers are working diligently to resolve them. “We are aware of the problems, and our technical team is on it,” Rogers stated.
Members of the public who had come to register expressed their disappointment and concern over the delays and the lack of clear assurances that the issues would be resolved promptly. Many prospective voters feared that the online nature of the registration exercise might disenfranchise them.
“I am worried that if these network issues continue, many of us might not be able to register and vote in the upcoming elections,” said one frustrated registrant.
As the situation develops, the Electoral Commission urges the public to remain patient while technical teams address the network problems. Updates on the progress and any changes to the registration schedule will be communicated promptly.
