Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Samuel Nartey George, has urged Parliament to take decisive action following an incident in which Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings was subjected to a deeply derogatory remark when an unidentified voice referred to her as the “daughter of a murderer.” This incident occurred on February 4, 2025, while Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin was addressing the House amid heated discussions surrounding the 60th anniversary of Joseph Boakye Danquah’s death. The remark sparked widespread condemnation and calls for swift action against the perpetrator.
Sam George has urged Parliament to take decisive action following this incident. He emphasized the need for a thorough investigation using all available resources, including CCTV footage and forensic voice analysis, to identify and sanction the culprit. “The Marshals department must produce the CCTV footage of the chamber. It would allow us to see because nobody could have made those comments without some kind of gesticulation,” he added.
Sam George believes that setting an example in this case is crucial to upholding Parliament’s integrity. “This is very easy to do if we are committed. I think Parliament must do this, and we must set an example,” he stated.
Meanwhile the Anlo Dukor Council has also petitioned the Speaker of Parliament to identify the MP responsible by February 10. They expressed outrage over the comment and called for swift action. This move follows similar condemnations from other groups like members of NDC in Klottey Korle constituency who have denounced these derogatory comments as unfortunate.
As investigations continue, there is growing pressure on authorities to address such behaviour effectively.
