The member of Parliament for Damongo, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has denied allegations that he referred to Dr Zanetor Rawlings as the “daughter of a murderer” during a parliamentary session.
The remark came while the Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin was addressing the house on the 60th anniversary of Joseph Boakye Danquah’s death.
Tensions escalated when Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed challenged what he described as exaggerated praises from the Minority regarding JB Danquah’s legacy. As Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings attempted to speak, she was overlooked by Speaker Andrew Asiamah in favour of Afenyo-Markin.
Following social media reports accusing Jinapor of making the offensive comment, he boldly denied these allegations in an interaction with journalists on Wednesday, February 5, 2025.
“All modesty attests to the fact that I don’t speak in that nature,” Jinapor stated. “I don’t speak in that manner… The words which are being falsely attributed to me are not words that I will ever use.”
He emphasized his respect for former President Rawlings and highlighted his past tributes to him: “I have huge respect for President Rawlings, when he passed away, in Parliament, I seconded Honourable Haruna Iddrisu and supported and eulogized President Rawlings.”
Jinapor also noted his adherence to parliamentary protocol: “I don’t even speak across the aisle when I am in Parliament; if I want to say anything, I make an effort to catch the speaker’s attention and say it publicly.”
He concluded by stating that such behaviour is not characteristic of him: “It is totally false, anybody who knows me very well knows that Abu Jinapor will not speak that way.”
