Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin says Parliament will never succumb to pressure in the passage of bills and other legislative work.
While acknowledging that the country’s overreliance on donor support makes it susceptible to the beck and call of the supporter, Parliament maintains its independence at all times.
Mr. Bagbin made these comments when he engaged civil society organisations and the media in Accra.
Citing the Affirmative Action Bill as an example, he said its passage hinges on proper engagement with stakeholders and so cannot be rushed through.
He said that in order for Parliament to get to the doorsteps of the people, it is working on building permanent constituencies and regional offices.
