The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has called on President-elect John Dramani Mahama and Vice President-elect Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang to work hard to honour the trust and mandate given to them by Ghanaians.
Speaking after their victory in the December 7 elections, Speaker Bagbin congratulated the two leaders on their resounding win. He reminded them of the responsibility that comes with such overwhelming support.
“I applaud President-elect John Dramani Mahama and Vice President-elect Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang for this emphatic victory and the heavy mandate from Ghanaians. As the saying goes, to whom much is given, much is expected,” Mr. Bagbin said.
The Speaker emphasised that the campaign promise to “reset Ghana” has been strongly endorsed by voters, urging the new leaders to deliver on their commitments.
“Your promise to reset Ghana has been massively endorsed by the voters, and you cannot afford to disappoint them,” he stressed.
Mr. Bagbin also assured that Parliament would play its role as a dependable partner to support the new administration. He noted that the legislature would help safeguard the integrity of the reforms promised to the people.
“I trust Parliament will be a reliable partner and a gatekeeper to ensure a just delivery of that promise,” the Speaker added.
The Speaker’s remarks highlight the high expectations of Ghanaians and the crucial role of Parliament in ensuring the new government fulfills its pledges.
