The Paramount Chief of Chiana Traditional Area, Thomas More Ditundini Adiali, has been declared winner of the Council of State elections in the Upper East Region by the Electoral Commission. Mr. Ditundini who doubles as President of the Regional House of Chiefs beat six others to emerge victorious in the election held in Bolgatanga.
30 Assembly Members from 15 Districts and Municipal Assemblies cast their votes to select one person to represent the Upper East Region in the council. The seven aspirants were all sure of victory when polls began after 10. 30 am. After 40 minutes of voting and counting, the Electoral Commissioner, William Obeng Darko pronounced the paramount Chief of the Chiana Traditional Area, Thomas More Ditundini Adiali winner of the election.
“Here is how the results look like at the end of voting and counting. Elias Ayinbila Apasiya had zero, Thomas More of Ayamfoya Memorial Hospital had five votes; Thomas More Ditundini Adiali (Chiana Pio) garnered eighteen votes, while Peter Baba Aluze-le got three votes. Justice Aduko managed to get two votes, while Balinia Adda Dennis and Bismark Adongo had one vote each” Mr. Obeng-Darko announced.
He emphasized that, “Per the rules governing the election within the law, on behalf of the Electoral Commissioner Jean Mensah, I declare Thomas More Ditundini Adiali as the elected representative for the council of state member for the Upper East Region.”
Speaking to GBCNews, the Council of State member elect, Ditundini Adiali commended the delegates for the confidence reposed in him. He assured supporters and people of the Upper East Region of his commitment to route for the development of the region.
“The assembly members expressed that their welfare has not been catered for and they are not well resourced enough to take care of the needs of their communities. So I will follow up for the NDC to fulfil their manifesto promise of giving assembly members allowances.”
“The building of an Upper East regional Airport is also paramount on my list. Not forgetting the Pwalugu Multipurpose Dam project which will help our people who want to engage in all year round farming. Action speak louder than words” Mr. Adiali promised.
The Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Akamugri earlier visited the voting centre and assured the people of adequate security. This is the second time Chiana Pio has contested the Council of State elections. His first attempt was in 2021 but the Tongrana Kugbilsong Nalebtang won. He however did not give up and today, he has emerged victorious.
