Three persons involved in Savelugu clash arrested

The Northern Regional Election Security Taskforce has retrieved an AK 47 rifle with sixty rounds of ammunition from an office of the NDC in the Savelugu Constituency.

A second AK 47 assault rifle loaded with forty rounds of ammunition, twenty-one additional ammunition and one round of G3 ammunition, was retrieved from a house that shares a wall with the party office. A 14-year-old girl was shot to death in front of the NDC office on election night, during jubilations by party supporters.

According to the Election Security Taskforce, while investigating the shooting incident that led to the death of the 14-year-old girl, they received Intelligence indicating, there were arms in the party office and the adjacent house.

At a media briefing in Tamale today, the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Timothy Yoosa Bonga, disclosed that the police have arrested three persons including the owner of the house to assist with investigations.

The owner of the house, Chief Mohammed Ahmed, has since been remanded by the Tamale District Court 2. He has been charged with unlawful possession of firearms.
