Vice President, H.E Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has stated that the most significant social intervention since independence is the free senior high school policy that has been introduced by the Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo-led government.
“The Free SHS is the most significant social intervention introduced in Ghana since independence.”
H.E Dr Mahamudu Bawumia said this on Saturday, 15th February, 2020 at Swedru in the Central Region.
He was Special Guest of Honour at the 61st Speech and Prize giving day of Swedru Senior High School.
Addressing the guests, H.E Dr Mahamudu Bawumia reiterated government’s commitment to furnishing the essential infrastructure and logistics to attain the goal of producing an educated workforce ready to take advantage of and explore the many opportunities in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
“This was a promise we made prior to the election in 2016 and one that we have fulfilled. We are investing and building capacity for the future of this country.”
“The future of this nation depends largely on the kind of education that is provided for its citizenry. It is against this background that the President’s focus is on provision of quality education for every Ghanaian child, irrespective of their social or economic status in the society. Every Ghanaian child through quality education must be empowered to become economically independent,” he said.
Speaking to the challenges of the policy, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia said the double track system had to be introduced due to the challenge of inadequate infrastructure and will soon be a thing of the past as government is investing in the construction of new infrastructure at senior high schools across the country.
