Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has hosted some Muslim faithful, clergymen, and other dignitaries at the Jubilee House for IFTAR, the meal eaten by Muslims after sunset to break their fast. IFTAR at the Jubilee House was initiated by the government in 2017 to offer the Muslim Community an opportunity to break their fast at the Seat of Government during Ramadan.

The Vice President said the harmony between all faiths in the country is a gift from God which must be cherished and protected. He entreated all religious communities and persons of the various faiths in the country to continue to guard the peace and harmony that exists between Muslims and other religious bodies.

Iftar is the main meal of the day for Muslims during Ramadan. While Iftar is significant with regards to health and nutrition, Muslims believe it also has a spiritual meaning and significance. It is believed that at Iftar time, Allah shows special mercy and love to those fasting and most especially to those who provide food for others at Iftar time.

Muslims are in the last ten days of the Ramadan fast. The IFTAR at the Jubilee House started in 2017, and this is the 6th time it is being held. Also invited for the meal were some Christian leaders. Dr. Bawumia symbolically presented some dates to the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Shaributu, and other dignitaries to break the fast as it was a period to show gratitude to Allah and also pray for the nation’s prosperity. Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, described the strong harmony between all religious bodies as a “Gift” which must be protected.

The Spokesperson for the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu, encouraged the Muslim community to be grateful to Allah for his goodness during the Ramadan. He urged the Muslim community to live in peace with their neighbours.

A Former Chairman of the Christ Apostolic Church, Apostle Dr. Stephen Amoaning, said the presence of Christian leaders at the IFTAR is a symbol of the peace that exists between Muslims and Christians.
