Development Economist Dr. Nii Moi Thompson has been appointed as the Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), pending consultations with the Council of State.
According to the statement released by the Spokesperson to the President Felix Kwakye on January 3, 2025, Dr. Thompson has served as the Director-General of the National Development Planning Commission, where he was instrumental in preparing Ghana’s 40-Year Development Plan.
His experience also includes leading Ghana’s technical delegations to the United Nations from 2014 to 2015, focusing on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their integration into national policy.
In his new role, Dr. Thompson will collaborate closely with key figures such as the Minister for Finance, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, and the Government Statistician, among others, to provide strategic advice to both the President and Parliament regarding Ghana’s development initiatives.
Additionally in the statement, President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Mr. Albert Kwadwo Twum Boafo as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) while awaiting the reconstitution of its Board.
Mr. Twum Boafo is a Civil Engineer and finance expert, having previously served as Chief Executive of the Ghana Free Zones Authority from 2009 to 2017.
He holds degrees in Materials Engineering, Civil Engineering, and an MBA in Finance and Investment Analysis.
These appointments reflect the Mahama administration’s commitment to enhancing national planning and financial oversight as part of its governance strategy.
