As an interim measure to address shortage of food in the Senior High Schools, SHS, across the country, President John Dramani Mahama, has directed the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, to liaise with the Management of the Ghana Education Service to cart part of the consignment of food imported to support farmers in the regions of the north affected by last year’s drought.

President Mahama announced this when he addressed the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service in Accra.

President Mahama during the 2024 campaign promised to institute a national day of prayer and thanksgiving if he wins the presidential election.  As it turned out, he won the election decisively and has fulfilled the promise.

Last Friday, muslim prayers and thanksgiving service was held on the premises of the National Mosque at Kanda with the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharabutu leading the prayers to kick start the national prayers and thanksgiving service.

Sunday’s service for the Christian community was attended by the leadership of the various Christian religious groups from orthodox, charismatic, Pentecostal, the Vice President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, national leaders and supporters of the NDC.

Gospel musicians Joe Mettle, Uncle Ato, Nacee and Francis Asimadu provided melodious worship and praises songs while the Harmonious Chorale and Cedar Mount Assemblies of Church Choir treated the congregants to choral music.

President Mahama who attributed the NDC’s electoral success to the work of God, said the food shortage in secondary schools could have been avoided if the Ghana Education Service had heeded to the advice of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools, CHASS.

President Mahama said the idea behind the national education conference as part of his 120-day promise is to generate consensus on ensuring quality education at all levels.

The Vice President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, was full of praise to God for granting the three NDC campaign teams and the supporters of travelling mercies across the country without any incident.

The General Supt of the Assemblies of God Church, Ghana, Rev. Stephen Wengam, delivered the thanksgiving sermon and the General Overseer of Action Chapel Archbishop Nicholas Duncan Williams, provided the word of exhortation.

Rev Wengam on behalf of the Global Chairman of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship, Dominic Yeo, presented a plaque to President Mahama for the honour done the church.
