President Mahama Pays Tribute to Sam Nujoma, Signs Book of Condolence

President John Dramani Mahama has paid tribute to the late Sam Nujoma, the founding president of Namibia, following his passing on February 8, 2025. In a heartfelt message shared on his X handle. President Mahama expressed gratitude for Nujoma’s lifelong commitment to the fight for freedom and dignity in Africa. He emphasized that Nujoma fought valiantly for liberation, stating, “You have truly fought a good fight, and now is the time for the faithful soldier to lay down his arm and take a rest.”

President Mahama highlighted the significant impact of Nujoma’s leadership on Namibia and the broader African continent. He acknowledged that the dignity and freedom enjoyed by many today are largely due to Nujoma’s relentless efforts in securing independence for Namibia. “Namibia is truly grateful to you, and Africa is truly grateful to you for the dignity and freedom we enjoy as a people,” President Mahama remarked, underscoring Nujoma’s legacy as a champion of Pan-Africanism.

He  concluded his tribute with a solemn farewell, stating, “Rest in peace, soldier, Sam Nujoma. Long live Africa and #Namibia solidarity.” President Mahama’s tribute reflects a collective mourning across Africa as leaders and citizens honour Nujoma’s monumental contributions to the liberation struggle and his enduring influence on future generations.
