Ghana’s national U-20 women’s team, the Black Princesses, are gearing up for an exciting chapter in their football journey as they have been drawn in Group E for the upcoming FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

This prestigious tournament, which will be held in Colombia from August 31 to September 22, 2024, marks a significant milestone as it will feature an expanded 24-team format for the first time. The Black Princesses’ group includes formidable opponents such as Japan, New Zealand, and Austria, setting the stage for thrilling encounters on the global stage.

The Black Princesses secured their spot in the U-20 FIFA Women’s World Cup earlier this year with a remarkable performance during the qualifiers. They dominated Senegal in the final round, achieving an impressive 7-1 aggregate victory. This triumph not only showcased their skill and determination but also cemented their reputation as a formidable force in women’s football on the African continent.

Their recent success at the All African Games women’s football tournament further underscores their rising prowess. The Black Princesses clinched the gold medal after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Nigeria in the final, held at the Cape Coast Stadium. This victory has undoubtedly boosted their confidence as they prepare to take on the world’s best at the upcoming World Cup.

The FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia promises to be a landmark event, with the expanded format providing new opportunities for teams to shine. The inclusion of 24 teams means increased competition and a broader showcase of young talent from around the globe. For the Black Princesses, this tournament represents a chance to make a significant impact on the world stage and further elevate the status of women’s football in Ghana.

As the tournament approaches, all eyes will be on the Black Princesses to see how they fare against their group-stage opponents as they look to improve their performance in the tournament, having been there seven times already.
