The Headmistress of Labone Senior High School, Mrs Cynthia Abuo-Nti, has called on government to reconsider  abolishing  PTA levies in schools.

She said, “the levies help in providing some social amenities for students and also speed up the construction of  projects  adding that the levies go a long way to improve  teaching and learning.”

Mrs Abuo-Nti was speaking at the opening  of a Complex  Facility  donated by the Parents Teachers Association of the School.

The Edifice consists of a conference room, an ultra modern library, an E learning, french classroom, an ICT centre, and a staff common room. The facility will fast track teaching and learning activities in the school.

This, the head mistress, Mrs.Cynthia Abuo-Nti, said the PTA’s support is a timely intervention. She however pleaded with government to bring back the levies to aid the projects in the school.

Mrs. Abuo-Nti called on other benevolent organisations and old students to their aid as they celebrate 70 years of existence.

The PTA Chairman, Rev Solomon Mireku gave the motive behind the gesture. He said the PTA is key in developing the various schools.

Some of the teachers shared their joy with radio Ghana and called on old students support.

The School is celebrating its 70th Anniversary on Saturday November 30.

Meanwhile, the Former Headmistress of Labone Senior High School, Madam Kate Bannerman has expressed displeasure over the attitude of some Parents towards the education of their wards.

She said since the inception of the free SHS Policy, some parents have decided not to contribute anything, not even the purchase of Elective Text Books for their wards.

In an interview with GBC’s Radio Ghana, Mad. Bannerman said this behaviour is affecting teaching and learning in schools.

She has therefore called on parents to change their attitudes.
