Veronica Commey, a highly respected sports journalist, has been appointed as a Deputy Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA).

The announcement was made by the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, during the launch of a sports psychology training program at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday.

Commey’s appointment marks a new chapter in her illustrious career, as she brings her wealth of experience in journalism and administration to the NSA.

Veronica Commey, a seasoned journalist and long-time member of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), has built a reputation for her in-depth coverage of sports in Ghana and beyond. Prior to her appointment, she served as the Chief Sports Journalist at the Ghana News Agency (GNA) and as a Sports Journalist at GTV.

Her career also includes freelance work with international sports organizations, showcasing her versatility and expertise in the field. Beyond journalism, Commey has held key administrative roles, including her tenure as Head of Corporate Affairs at the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) from 2015 to 2017.

Commey’s appointment as Deputy Director General is complemented by the naming of Gideon Hammond, a seasoned sports administrator, as the second deputy. Together, they will support the NSA’s Acting Director General, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, who also has a background in journalism.

The NSA traditionally operates with two Deputy Director Generals, with one focusing on administration and the other on technical matters. However, the specific distribution of roles between Commey and Hammond remains unclear at this time.

The appointment of Veronica Commey has been widely welcomed by stakeholders in the sports industry, who praise her extensive experience and dedication to promoting Ghanaian sports.

Her role as Media Officer for Team Ghana during the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in France further highlights her ability to work in high-pressure environments and her commitment to elevating Ghana’s sporting profile on the global stage.
