Acquiring accommodation in Ghana, especially in the capital, has become the bane of many people. Many have declined jobs and other opportunities because of a lack of a decent place to lay their heads. Unfortunately, some housing agents have taken advantage of the situation to charge exorbitant fees to prospective house seekers.
To curb this menace, the Rental Housing Professionals Association of Ghana held a programme dubbed “Networking Mixer of Rental Housing Professionals and Industry Affiliates” to bring members together for a common goal.
The event, which took place at Liv Restocafe on Friday, May 26, had about 20 rental housing professionals coming together to fraternise with one another.
Speaking to Nation 1 TV, President of the Association, Regina Christian Koomson, said the purpose of the formation of this association is to bring all rental housing professionals together to educate, advocate, and collaborate to ensure that there is structure in the industry.
According to her, the Association comprises all rental housing professionals and affiliates. She described the affiliates as people who are in the construction industry, including masons, carpenters, painters, plumbers, and what have you.
She continued that the Association aims to hold such programmes every month to help members get to know one another, share business ideas and opportunities, discuss challenges, and share profits.
She added that the Association held a press conference to express their stance on the National Rental Assistance Scheme, which was launched through the Ministry of Works and Housing.
She concluded that RHAG looks forward to ensuring that agents are registered and regulations are followed. She said this will reduce the situation where agents take commissions from both tenants and landlords at the same time. She expressed a strong belief that the association will see significant growth, be the voice of the people on rental issues, and render quality services to the people, especially foreigners and Ghanaians in the diaspora.
