Independent Presidential Hopeful for 2024 and a Certified Global Economist and Businessman, Dr. Sam Ankrah, has stated that as part of his vision to reduce the number of government workers when he becomes President, he will offload all white elephant governmental institutions because they are not sustainable.

Dr. Ankrah, who was answering questions on what he brings to the governance table that is different from the established hegemonies of the NDC and NPP, said his government will make sure the numbers of workers on the government payroll are reduced to achieve a sustainable level.

He added that other institutions, such as the Tema Oil Refinery, which sits redundant but has workers being paid salaries monthly, will either face offloading or privatisation to help cut governmental expenditure.

He explained his plan as one that is very necessary if we want the country to stay away from borrowing from the capital market and overdependence on foreign aid. He mentioned that, currently, some institutions have been dormant for some years but have people occupying offices, causing the government to borrow money just to pay them, which his government will not condone.

Dr. Ankrah further added that the privatisation of such dormant institutions will bring in experts who have the technical knowledge to put the institution back on track. He also said it would rather lead to the employment of qualified graduates with the requisite expertise.
