Parents and guardians have been urged to be mindful of the schools they choose for their children’s education, especially given the current debates surrounding LGBTQ+ theories. Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South, Alfred Okoe Vanderpuye, emphasized this point during the 25th anniversary celebration of the Seventh Day Adventist Basic School (SDA), Odorkor in Accra.

According to him, by carefully evaluating best educational practices, parents can choose a school that not only provides academic excellence but also nurtures their child’s overall growth and well-being.

“Today, you have to be very careful where you take your children for education. Today, it is very important to know who is teaching your child. Today is very important for us to be very careful where we educate our children because there is a lot that is going on. There are a lot of philosophies that are being propagated around us. Quality schools, quality leaders, and quality teachers are not easy to come by, so we have to be very careful where we send our children. We are being bombarded by ideas and ideologies that sometimes make us wonder where we are going as a country.”

“For some, it is still more about teaching and writing. Some social ideas coming into our classroom, Lesbianism, gayism all manner of things are entering our classrooms” the MP said.

The 25th anniversary was on the theme; “Quality Adventist Education, Honoring the Past, embracing the Future.” The SDA has been impacting the community as a church school and raising kingdom champions through Christ-centered education.

The headmaster of the SDA Basic School Odorkor, Francis Koffie said as the world continues to change rapidly, education must evolve with it.

He noted that “Odorkor SDA School will continue to uphold its core values while embracing innovation and new teaching methodologies to prepare students for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century”.

In today’s post-COVID world, children face numerous moral challenges. SDA is committed to empowering these young ones to make informed choices. Ghana needs young leaders who combine faith and intelligence to drive progress.

By instilling these values from an early age, schools can nurture responsible, God-fearing, and intelligent citizens poised to transform Ghana.
