The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has sworn in the first-ever Committee on Security and Intelligence, established under Order 258 (4) of the new Standing Orders of Parliament, which came into effect in January 2024.
The historic ceremony took place in Accra and marked a significant step in strengthening parliamentary oversight on security matters.

In his address, the Speaker congratulated the members of the committee and reminded them of the weighty responsibility they bear.
He urged them to approach their work with diligence and caution, emphasizing the sensitive nature of security issues that affect not only Parliament but the entire nation. He called on the committee to uphold integrity and professionalism in executing its mandate.

The committee is chaired by Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, with Oscar Ofori Larbi serving as Vice Chairman. The other members are Mahama Ayariga, Ernest Henry Norgbey, Samuel Nartey George, Bede Ziedeng, James Gyakye Quayson, Benjamin Narteh Ayiku, Alhassan Kobina Ghansah, Nicholas Amankwah, Joseph Tetteh Akuerteh, Rockson-Nelson Etse Kwami Dafeamekpor, Bryan Acheampong (Ranking Member), Kwabena Boateng (Deputy Ranking Member), Kwadwo Damoah, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, and Kofi Amankwa-Manu.

This landmark initiative reflects Parliament’s commitment to addressing national security challenges through informed legislative oversight and collaboration.
The committee is expected to play a pivotal role in safeguarding Ghana’s security interests and ensuring accountability within the sector.
