Four aspirants James Tenga Naismith Yidaan, Francis Tobig Yenwoma, Tohughtor Douglas both professional teachers and Maxwell Sallong a mechanical engineer have made it to final lists of persons seeking to become Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the Upper East Region.

The four were picked out nine who presented themselves to the vetting committee in Bolgatanga in January 2025. Representing the Nabdam District Assembly the four aspirants are expected to appear before the National Vetting Committee at the Local Government Institute in Madina, Accra with the first round set to take place on March 19, 2025. The announcement, signed by Regional Secretary of the party Mr. Akamugri Donatus Atanga, urged all aspirants to take note of the stated requirements and adequately prepare for the process.

According to the statement, the vetting process will involve three shortlisted aspirants per Municipality or District except Nabdam District who has presented four candidates for the slot. The vetting committee would assess the candidates’ competence, leadership abilities, and understanding of governance structures.

The candidate’s ability to generate funds for the office of the assembly would equally be of importance to the committee. These are to ensure the most qualified individuals are selected for these key local government positions. The committee highlighted that the selection of MMDCEs is a crucial step in ensuring effective local governance and development. It remains unclear why the Regional Vetting Committee shortlisted four aspirants for the Nabdam District to the National Vetting Committee.

Mr. James Naismith has worked as the constituency communications officer since 2014 while Mr. Francis Tobig has managed the youth front of the party for the past ten years. Whereas Mr. Maxwell Sallong worked as a co-opted executive member, taking charge of Nabdam voters leaving in Kumasi that saw Mark Kurt Nawaane winning the Nabdam Parliamentary seat in the past elections, Mr. Douglas Tohugtoh is the Mugabe of the NDC in the constituency. He has been the constituency secretary of the party since 2006. Both candidates have expressed optimism of catching the president’s eye to work as Chief Executive for the Nabdam District Assembly.
