Togbe Afede XIV has criticized the previous government’s economic management during President John Mahama’s Thank You tour in the Volta Region. He condemned the Bank of Ghana for spending nearly $300 millioa on a new head office building , which he believes is a reckless use of funds. This amount, he noted, could have built over 20 stadia of similar capacity to the one built by Goldfields in Tarkwa for $13 million.

Togbe Afede XIV also lamented the bastardization of Ghana’s institutions, which has rendered democratic institutions ineffective in protecting the interests of the masses. He accused a privileged few of exploiting democracy for personal gain, prioritizing their own interests over the nation’s well-being.

Ghana’s economy, Togbe Afede XIV argued, has collapsed, leading to severe hardship, currency depreciation, skyrocketing inflation, and widespread joblessness, making life difficult for young graduates. This, he emphasized, contradicts the aspirations of the Ghanaian people, as enshrined in the constitution and national anthem.
