The Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has explained his role in the chaotic scene that occurred in Parliament on January 30, 2025, during the vetting of some ministers.
Videos from the incident showed Mr Rockson Dafeamekpor and the Gushegu Member of Parliament (MP), Hassan Tampuli, holding onto each other’s clothing while arguing. Mr. Dafeamekpor was seen grabbing Tampuli’s shirt, while Tampuli also held onto his smock, creating a tense moment in Parliament.
While speaking on TV3’s Hot Issues, the South Dayi MP clarified that his intention was not to fight, but rather to protect his colleague, an MP from Western North, from potential harm. He explained that the Western North MP had found himself caught between two broken tables, which posed a serious risk of injury if he had fallen.
According to Dafeamekpor, Hassan Tampuli was pushing the Western North MP backward towards the broken tables, creating a dangerous situation. Seeing the risk, he quickly intervened to prevent any harm.
“I was trying to prevent my colleague from Western North from being hurt by Tampuli. His back was facing one of the tables that had been pulled apart, creating a big crack. If I had not stepped in, he could have suffered back fractures or worse,” he told host Kemini Amanor.
Dafeamekpor added that when he tried to stop the situation, Tampuli grabbed his fugu, and he also held onto Tampuli’s shirt. He urged Tampuli to let go, reminding him that as lawyers, they should not be fighting over such matters.
“If you disagree, walk away,” he recalled telling his colleague, emphasizing that his only intention was to prevent injury, not to escalate the situation.
