Construction work on the 120-bed facility new Fomena Government Hospital in the Adansi North District in the Ashanti Region has stalled due to lack of funds.
The facility initiated by the NDC government in 2014 was meant to augment existing health facilities in the district and consequently increase access to quality health care.
District Chief Executive for Adansi North, Eric Kwaku Kusi, said four percent of the work remains to be executed, to get the hospital operational.
GBC’s Felix Cofie reports that the abandoned facility and its quarters for hospital staff is overgrown with weeds with some metals rusting off.
Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Kwaku Asumah-Cheremah, who visited the facility after paying a courtesy call on the Adansihene, said he will alert the Ministry of Health to take up the issue.
He noted however that it is important to investigate why the contractor abandoned the project.
