Scientists at the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research and the West African Centre for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens, at the University of Ghana, says the research conducted on the genetic composition of the COVID-19 strain in Ghana indicates that ninety-two percent of samples tested show similarity to that of the Wuhan-China epicenter virus.
This will help scientists in Ghana to determine the appropriate vaccine and medication to treat the disease in the country.
Professor Gordon AkanzuwiniAwandare is the leader of the Team of Scientists at the University of Ghana.
He explained that data on the genetic composition of COVID-19 strain in Ghana was obtained from 15 confirmed cases in the country.
