Every year, between December and May, there is an acute water shortage in Kagbal in the North Gonja District of the Savanna Region.

During the period, residents struggle to get water for their daily use and have therefore sent an SOS to the government and benevolent organizations to help to address the problem.

The period between December and May every year, remains a major challenge for the people. As a result of the harsh harmattan weather, all water sources in the area dry up.

The situation, they say makes farming which is their main stay impossible.  Presently a dam which is the main source of water in the area has also dried up.

Those with Tricycles travel about three kilometers to get water from a nearby stream which they sell to residents at fifty pesewas per gallon.

The women who pick and process Shea nuts, said the situation is taking a toll on their business because they use a lot of water to process the shea nuts.

In response to an earlier appeal by the residents to desilt the dam, Delux Shea Enterprise and Maltiti Enterprise have gone to the aid of the people to desilt the dam to free it from alluvial soil carried into it when it rains.

The Manager for Maltiti Enterprise, Imoru Abu Kassim, appealed for a permanent solution to the perennial water shortage in the area.

The General Manager for Delux Enterprise Hajia Rabiatu Abubakari, was concernd about the indiscriminate cutting of Shea trees in the area which is having an adverse effect on the environment and affecting the weather pattern.
