Vincent Aboubakar has overtaken Samuel Eto’o as Cameroon’s player with the most goals at a single AFCON tournament as he struck against Comoros in the 2021 AFCON Round 16 clash on Monday evening.
The attacker, who turned 30 last Saturday, registered his 6th goal of the tournament when he connected home an effort past Comoros’ makeshift goalkeeper on the 70th-minute mark.
Prior to Aboubakar’s heroics, Eto’o was Cameroon’s all-time leading top-scorer at a single tournament with 5 goals during the 2008 AFCON which was hosted by Ghana.
But, Aboubakar’s 6-goal haul has now smashed Eto’o record as he has become the new record-holder for his country.
Below is the breakdown of Vincent Aboubakar’s goals at the 2021 AFCON
2 goals against Burkina Faso
2 goals against Ethiopia
1 goal against Cape Verde
1 goal against Comoros
However, Cameroon FECAFOOT President Samuel Eto’o is the all-time leading scorer of the AFCON tournament with 18 goals from 6 tournaments.
Aboubakar is just 3 goals away from equalling the record set by DR Congo’s Ndaye Mulamba in 1974 when he notched 9 goals in 5 games as the Leopards annexed their second trophy.
