Ghana’s sports stars, Rose Yeboah Amoanimaa and Edwin Gadayi on Friday, January 24, 2025 at the 49th SWAG Awards were honored as the Female and Male Athletes of the Year, respectively. Their remarkable performances throughout 2024 have not only brought glory to the nation but have also set the stage for future athletic endeavors. The event was a testament to the dedication and hard work of these athletes, who have become role models for aspiring sports enthusiasts across the country.
Rose Yeboah’s stellar year reached new heights when she clinched gold medal at the 13th African Games, solidifying her status as Ghana’s leading high jumper. Her exceptional performance not only showcased her talent but also contributed to the national pride as she earned a spot at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
On the other hand, Edwin Gadayi made headlines with his impressive display in the Confederation of African Athletics Region II Championship 100m final. Although he did not qualify for the Paris Olympics, his determination and skill in the sprinting arena have garnered respect and admiration from the athletic community. His journey serves as an inspiration for many young athletes, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and resilience in the face of challenges.
The award ceremony also recognized other notable figures in the sports industry, including Bright Kankam Boadu of Pure FM, who was named the SWAG Journalist of the Year. His acceptance speech highlighted the plight of the amputee team, who have been struggling with unpaid bonuses and the loss of one of their members. This poignant moment underscored the need for greater support and recognition for all athletes, especially those facing adversity.
