African Games: Ghana’s Abeiku Jackson wins silver in swimming

Abeiku Jackson joins Ghana’s medal list as he becomes the first Ghanaian to win a medal in the swimming event at the African Games. Jackson finished second in the men’s 50-metre butterfly event with a time of 24.23.

Jackson placed seventh in the men’s 50-metre butterfly at the 2019 African Games hosted in Rabat, Morocco. The 23-year-old, who is the captain of the Ghana swimming team, has elevated his performance this year in remarkable fashion.

Jackson, who has 13 national records to his name, notably butterfly and spanning freestyle, is determined to work hard at this year’s African Games given his chances to add more records to his accomplishments.

His silver medal at the games makes him the second-best Ghanaian athlete in the African Games currently, just behind Winnifred Ntumi, who has one gold medal and two silver medals in the weightlifting event. 

With some already signs of increasing the medal count in their cabinet, Ghana is optimistic of passing their 2019 performance, where they won two gold medals, two silver medals, and nine bronze medals, which saw them finish 15th.
