Ghanaian forward Jordan Ayew says the Black Stars team “needs to learn quickly” and recover from their 2-1 loss in their Group B opener in the ongoing 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament against Cape Verde on Sunday night at the Stade Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan.

Ghana’s defensive lapses allowed the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde to mar their opener of the 2023 African football showpiece.

“This type of mistake will happen; we need to learn quickly; the AFCON is not waiting for anyone.”

“We lack a lot of experience, more than 10. It’s our first AFCON. It’s not easy. It’s hard. We are men; we need to stand up and face reality,” Jordan Ayew said.

With this result, expectations and takes are high for the Black Stars as they go into their next group fixture against Egypt, who drew 2-2 with Mozambique earlier.

This leaves Ghana at the bottom of the table with no point, the Black Stars must redeem itself on Thursday, January 18, 2023, when they meet Egypt at the same venue.
