The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been penciled down by the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa, ANOCA to receive ANOCA’s Merit Award for Heads of States.
This announcement was made during Annual General Meeting in Melia Llana Hotel prior to the 2019 Beach Games in Sal, Cape Verde.
According to the president of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa, Mustapha Berraf, Ghana’s president was chosen for the highest award for his immensely contribution towards sports development in Ghana especially winning the bid to host the 2023 All African Games.
“ANOCA and Ghana Olympic Committee decided to honor the president of Ghana with the Head of State award. There are very few that are given such an award.”
“His Excellency is doing a good job and GOC President Ben Nunoo Mensah convinced us why the Ghana’s president must be rewarded. We appreciate his sporting roles for the youth in Ghana and Africa. We congratulate him and wish him well in his future endeavors.”
“We are now discussing with Ghana Olympic Committee for a historic day in Ghana for the presentation to be done,”ANOCA president Mustapha Berraf disclosed this in an interview with Team Ghana’s press officer Michael Okuley after the Annual General Meeting in Cape Verde.
The President of Cape Verde Jorge Carlos Fonseca is the immediate president expected to receive such award after the Beach Games in Sal.
The government played a key role to land the hosting right for the multi-sports event and plans are far advanced to ensure the competition is held smoothly. President Akufo-Addo’s led government is putting up 10 multi-purpose sporting infrastructure across the country as part of his commitment towards the growth of sports in the country.
