Another life cannot be lost over a game -IGP call to action for football safety

Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has reaffirmed the Ghana Police Service’s unwavering commitment to supporting investigations into the incident. This announcement came during a meeting with the management of Asante Kotoko on Tuesday February 4, 2025 at their secretariat, where discussions centered on ensuring the safety and unity of football fans.

Dr. Dampare emphasized the vital role that football plays in Ghanaian society, stating that it should serve as a catalyst for unity rather than conflict. He highlighted the need for stakeholders in the sport to foster an environment that promotes peace and camaraderie among fans. “We cannot allow another life to be lost over a game meant for entertainment,” he stated,

The Inspector General pointed out that football transcends mere competition; it is a powerful unifying force that strengthens community bonds. He reminded attendees that both national and local matches possess the potential to bridge divides and foster a spirit of togetherness. “Football, especially at the national level, has the power to bring us together. Even at the local level, it fosters unity,” he remarked.

Dr. Dampare called upon all involved in the sport to approach football for what it truly represents: a game to be enjoyed and celebrated. He urged fans, players, and officials to prioritize the spirit of the game, which enriches humanity and encourages positive interactions among individuals from diverse backgrounds. “So let’s approach football for what it truly is: a game to be enjoyed, a game to unite us,” he added passionately.
