Ghanaian-American basketball player Ashley Owusu has been drafted into the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). Her remarkable achievement was built on her impressive career in college basketball.

Ashley popped up in the women’s basketball scene with some stints with the University of Maryland and Virginia Tech University before moving to Penn State, where she gained recognition from the Women’s National Basketball Association, which placed her up for a draft pick. Owusu is of Ghanaian descent through her father and grew up in the US. She joins Laeticia Amihere from Canada, who also has a Ghanaian background in the WNBA.

The 23-year-old was selected as the 33rd pick as she was drafted by the Dallas Wings in the third round and third draft pick for the wings. Owusu’s season with Penn State University saw her average 17.7 points, 3.6 assists, and 5.5 rebounds in 20 games.

Her performance eventually got the attention of numerous basketball fans and followers, as she eventually became the first Penn State University player to be drafted into the WNBA since 2016, adding her name to the 16 players from the university to have already done that.
