The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams has addressed the implications of President John Dramani Mahama’s directive regarding restrictive travel. The President had instructed newly appointed ministers to adhere to strict travel guidelines during their tenure. In light of this, Adams emphasized that travel for athletes will still proceed if deemed critical, provided all necessary protocols are followed.
During the swearing-in ceremony of the new ministers, President Mahama underscored the importance of caution and responsibility in travel, citing concerns over health and safety. This directive aims to minimize unnecessary travel during a time when global events have raised questions about the safety of international engagements. However, Kofi Adams made it clear that the needs of the sports sector must also be considered.
Adams stated, “If the travel is critical and necessary, you have to travel.” His comments highlight the necessity of balancing the President’s directives with the demands of sporting events that may require athletes to compete or participate abroad. The Minister reassured stakeholders that all travel will be carefully evaluated against the established protocols to ensure compliance and safety.
