Benlazar Myriam Yasmine, captain of the Algeria national female football team, the Fennecs, is confident of a “positive” outcome, against the Black Queens of Ghana in the opening fixture of the 2018 African Women Cup of Nations (AWCON).
The Fennecs, will play the host at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday November 17, at 15:30 GMT.
Skipper Yasmine, told the media at a pre-match conference that, the team was under no pressure playing their first game against host Ghana.
She said they had prepared for any form of atmosphere the host fans would provide, adding that they were ready to use it to their advantage.
“So far the preparation is good and we are ready to meet Ghana. We are under no pressure because the pressure is the same and we are are going to use it positively. The team is doing well and we would be okay on the day,” she said.
Algeria are looking forward to being the first team from North Africa to qualify for the International Federation of Football Association (FIFA) Women’s World Cup.
The top three teams of the tournament will make it to the World Cup stage.
Algeria however, in all of its previous four appearances at the tournament have never qualified from the group stage with their last appearance in Namibia 2014.
