Ghana U-20 coach Desmond Ofei is determined to get the Black Satellites back to the Africa Cup of Nations. Since winning the tournament in 2021, Ghana hasn’t qualified for the competition, missing out last year after drawing with Niger and Cote d’Ivoire and losing to Burkina Faso in the group stage.
Ofei is now focused on helping a new group of players reach the continental stage, starting with this year’s WAFU B tournament in Togo. He expressed his commitment to preparing the team for the AFCON, which will take place in Ivory Coast in January, saying it’s important for both him and the nation.
The 36-year-old previously led Ghana to win gold at the 2023 African Games in Accra and believes it’s time for the country to start winning trophies again, especially after the recent struggles of other youth teams. He aims to put Ghana back on the international map by achieving success.
The Black Satellites will play their first match against Benin on October 17, followed by games against Niger and Togo. As part of their preparation, the team went on a European tour, where they played against Switzerland and Germany, losing both matches.
