The Black Satellites in their second group game against Gambia showed some promising performances as they defeated their opponent by 3-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, March 12, 2024.

After coming off a difficult game against Congo in their first group game in the African Games where they drew without any promising signs in front of goal, the boys corrected every bit of that in their game against Gambia by taking advantage of most of their chances, even though they missed a penalty in the game.

Ghana dominated the game from the word go as they possessed most of the play with some scintillating passages of play, forcing the Gambians to sit back. Musibau Aziz wasn’t ready to give in to Gambian’s strong defensive line when he put the ball past the Gambian goalkeeper in the 12th minute to make it 1-0.

The second half sparked an even better performance from the Satellites as they grew in momentum, mounting more pressure on Gambia. The Satellites scored four minutes into the second half with a lovely goal from Dreams FC’s talented youngster, Abdul Aziz Issah, which extended the lead to 2-0.

An opportunity fell to Ghana as they were presented with a chance to add another goal to their two from the spot, but they failed to capitalise on that in the 75th minute.

Gambia pulled one back in the 83rd minute to stage a comeback, but they were unfortunately hit back by a goal from Ghana’s Jerry Afriyie, who added a third to seal a 3-1 victory for Ghana.

Ghana will now shift their attention towards their next game against Benin on Friday, March 15, 2024, with the aim of securing a place in the semifinals.
